FO Emulsification Systems :

What is Emulsification ?

 
Emulsification is blending of furnace oil and about 10 % of water with emulsifying agent. The solution needs to be hated up to 50 Deg.C & mixed properly with circulation pump for 3 to 4 hrs. For proper blending, Emulsified water in furnace oil can be separated with the help of
de-emulsifying agent only.


This Emulsified furnace oil can be used directly to any burner without any changes in existing system, to increase the combustion efficiency of the fuel, resulting in reduction of F.O.Consumption by approximately 5 to 7%, reducing the fuel cost.


The Emulsion is stable state for at lest one-year, so Emulsified furnace oil needs to be consumed within the period of one year.

For complete combustion of any oil in burner, fuel needs to be properly atomized in the firing chamber. In major burners this atomization is achieved by spray nozzle, this is called as primary atomization.

With the help of Emulsification we can achieve secondary atomization of fuel in side the firing chamber which helps in complete combustion of fuel to increase the overall efficiency of system.

When flame takes place the water in oil emulsion gets vaporized explosively due to rapid heating, resulting dispersment within individual fuel droplets. The water vaporization is conversion of the water droplets to steam, in turn produces a rapid expansions of the surrounding oil droplets resulting in very fine atomization of the fuel, this is called as secondary atomization. In this state of fuel, effective surface area of fuel droplets increases resulting in complete combustion of fuel.

According to National Science Foundation (NSF) study in USA, the picture shows that droplets of emulsified fuel, 200 micron in size; in to a multitude of 1 to 10 micron converted sized fuel droplets i.e. very fine atomization takes place. This fine atomization helps in complete combustion of fuel oil increasing the overall efficiency of the system.
